ORAHEX was being used by medical and dental professionals long before it became available to the general public.

In the mid-1990s, Dr. Ranny Reyes, a distinguished periodontist, former Dean of the NU College of Dentistry, Founding President of the Philippine Society of Periodontology (PSP), and former Chairman of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Dentistry, began formulating ORAHEX through a series of experiments with chlorhexidine conducted in his own kitchen.

Recognizing chlorhexidine gluconate’s effectiveness as an antiseptic agent that helps reduce microbial flora and prevent infection, Dr. Reyes set out to develop an oral rinse that would be both effective and suitable for patients’ palates. His formulation eventually became what we know today as ORAHEX.

Turning Filipino Innovation into Market Success

In 1999, with the support of Zuellig Group of Companies, they developed the market for the product and established Pharmahex, Inc. That same year, this proudly Filipino invention was registered with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). Within a year, it was granted its license by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

Initially used by medical doctors and dental professionals exclusively for their patients’ care, ORAHEX expanded into the general public sphere when the feedback became so positive that entry into the marketplace became a very feasible possibility.
