The Oral Health Secret That Got Out

ORAHEX was already being used by medical and dental professionals long before anyone in the general public knew about it or saw it in the marketplace. In the mid-1990s, distinguished periodontogist and former NU College of Dentistry Dean Dr. Ranny Reyes formulated ORAHEX from experiments made with chlorhexidine in his kitchen.

Dr. Ranny knew chlorhexidine gluconate was an effective antiseptic agent that could decrease microbial flora on the skin and prevent infection, he began creating an oral solution that would be suitable for the palates of patients. This formulation became what we know now as ORAHEX.

In 1999, with the support of Zuellig Group of Companies, they developed the market for the product and established Pharmahex, Inc. That same year, this proudly Filipino invention was registered with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). Within a year, it was granted its license by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

Initially used by medical doctors and dental professionals exclusively for their patients’ care, ORAHEX expanded into the general public sphere when the feedback became so positive that entry into the marketplace became a very feasible possibility. To this day, ORAHEX holds the distinction of being used by dentists and doctors alike.
